The National Kidney Federation. The UK's leading kidney charity. Run by kidney patients for kidney patients. A great source of information on everything to do with kidneys. (There is a little more information at the bottom of theis page).

The Kidney Patient Guide. A tremendous help for any new patient. This site has an unconventional layout but is one of the best sources of information on the web. This site is well worth a visit.



The British Kidney Patients Association. Founded by Elizabeth Wood back in 1975 after her son Timbo was diagnosed with kidney failure at the age of 13 years. At that time there was no national association concerned with the plight of Britain's kidney patients.

The NHS Direct. Where you will find all sorts of advice and help. Sometimes however it might be easier to just ring them.

My Kidney .org. Another NHS site with plenty of information. This site has an interesting 'Quick Facts' section, lots of download-able information and a good source.

Founded in 1961, Kidney Research UK is the leading UK charity funding research that focuses on the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease. The charity also dedicates its work to improving patient care and raising awareness of kidney disease.

The Transplant Support Network (TSN) is the only nationwide network that supports patients, family and carers of all solid organ transplants and mechanical implants. As well as giving patients access to someone who has undergone the same transplantation process as themselves.

The NkF's glossary of terms Incredibly useful for finding out what words like 'hyperthyroidism' mean and will make you the envy of the Scrabble world. But seriously a very useful place.

You Can Do It. Now access PD support anywhere & anytime! This interactive version of the YCDI program uses a variety of animations, illustrations and audio to provide support for doing PD at home. Access this great resource through the main Baxters site; you will need your password.

The East Midlands Renal Network is rapidly becoming the hub of Renal Care in the East Midlands thanks mainly to the work of their web-mistress Shehnaz Jamal who works incredibly hard at keeping the website up to date.

National Kidney Disease Education Program. Lots of downloadable information for any patient with renal disease. A well run site with links galore! Well worth a look.

Your Kidneys and How They Work. This site has lots of information about how your kidneys actually work with diagrams and plain talking.

National Kidney Federation

The Lincs KPA is affiliated to the NKF. This is the only National Federation run by patients for patients. They are based at The Point, Coach Road, Shireoaks, Worksop, Notts, S81 8BW, and can be contacted on 01909 544999 or by e-mail at nkf@kidney.org.uk.

They also have a national helpline number and calls are charged at local rates 0845 601 02 09.

All members of the Lincs KPA will recieve the NKF magazine titled Kidney Life four times a year free of charge. It is very informative. Members can also send for a free booklet entitled "Help I've got kidney failure" by Dr Rob Higgins, just ring the NKF Helpline.
